Your Past Does Not Dictate Your Future

Your Past Does Not Dictate Your Future

by Meggan Larson

Recently I was chatting with someone in my accountability group who was experiencing a weight loss stall and was understandably frustrated about it. We troubleshot a little bit and it turned out that she had only been completely back on plan for 4 weeks and in those 4 weeks had lost 4lbs. Her frustration stemmed from the fact that previously when starting out on plan she had lost almost twice as much in the same time period. Hey I get it, I’ve so been there before. It can be super frustrating when you know that you’ve lost faster before but the fact is…

Your Past Does Not Dictate Your Future

Your past does not dictate your future. Your past failures do not dictate your future success. And on the flip side, your past successes do not necessarily mean that they will be future successes. When you start something over it’s important to really start over. What that means is that you can’t have expectations one way or the other. If you lost weight super fast before but have now had a baby or a major life changing event happen to your body, then it’s a whole new ball game! Do yourself a favour and start over for real. Re-read the plan book, remind yourself that one pound a week is 52lbs in a year, and leave the past in the past. If you failed miserably last time so what? This is a new day for you and you need to celebrate everything that’s going well instead of focusing on the fact that it either didn’t go well last time or it went better last time than it’s going now. Stop comparing and just move on! You’ll be better for it and happier in the end. And remember that the book doesn’t even consider you a turtle (slow weight loser) until it’s been a few months of no loss so please stop being so hard on yourself! We can’t see what is happening inside of our bodies so don’t panic the first week you don’t lose a pound or even go up a pound. It’s really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I promise. 🙂
