“Your Empty is not His Empty”
by Hannah Keeley
The other day, Karis was in the kitchen making himself a peanut butter sandwich and I heard him holler, “Mama, we’re out of peanut butter!
I walked into the kitchen and said “No, we’re not.””Yes, we are!” he insisted. “I already threw away the jar.” I reached into the trash and pulled out the jar. “Honey,” I said, “you’re empty is not my empty.” Like any good mom would do…
I reached into the kitchen drawer, pulled out a plastic spatula, and scooped out enough peanut butter to make at least two more sandwiches. After Karis was satisfied with his snack, I thought about how often a breakthrough lies just beyond what we think is “empty.”
At one time or another, all of us are tempted to give up. It seems the more you try, the more behind you get. You put forth all the effort and expertise you can drum up and you come up…empty.
But your “empty” is not God’s “empty.” Our resources are limited. God’s resources are not. He is the eternal, everlasting, expansive God. He owns it all and we are His chosen children. When you feel like you got nothin’ that’s when you need to take your eyes off what you’ve got and turn them to the One Who’s got you!
You may feel like you’ve got nothing left in your stash of knowledge, contacts, or resources, but that’s a lie. Wanna know why? Because your knowledge, contacts, and resources were never your source in the first place. God is your source and He is not running low on supplies! He has everything lined up for you–the right breaks, the right resources, everything.
Don’t lose hope today. Instead, I want you to get your hopes up! God will only supply up to your level of faith, so build up your faith, Mama! Get excited if you feel like you’ve got nothing because that’s where God works best! He wants to be your source so He gets the credit. When the women appeared at the tomb on the third day following Jesus’ death, they felt they had nothing either. There was the tomb…totally empty. But what they didn’t know at the time was that their biggest breakthrough was just on the other side of empty.
Don’t fall for the lie of “empty.” God has something in store for you. Build up your faith and get excited. A miracle is about to break through!

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
