You Have What You Hear

You Have What You Hear

by Joanna Beck

Have you ever started humming a song and thought where in the world did I hear that song? Chances are you passed by someone humming it or it was playing in a store while shopping. We can hear things and not even be aware of it at the time.

“Pay attention to what you hear. – MARK 4:24

This can be harder than you think because you don’t always hear what you’re hearing. Think of a dog whistle. We know it’s making a sound but we can’t hear it!

This is why we have to be careful in life because…

…there are a lot of things going on and they’re getting into our subconscious. I used to listen to all different types of music and one day my husband and I were driving and all of a sudden a song we had listened to for years was on and we finally “heard” the lyrics. We turned it off and said to each other we can’t sing this song! Why? Because we don’t want what was being said in that song to manifest in our lives. We have to be so careful with what we hear and with what we speak.

Think about this statement. “What we hear determines what we say, what we say determines what we see, and what we see determines where we move.”

You can never say what you don’t hear.

So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17

So if faith comes by hearing, the ear is a gate to our soul and spirit. Faith is not the only thing that comes by hearing, doubt comes by hearing, depression comes by hearing, all of these different things come by hearing. Whether it is the conscious things we hear or the unconscious things that are sneaking into our eye gate and ear gate. Who have you been listening to? Who you hear the most is who you believe the most. Sometimes we hear all these things that we can’t see. Maybe you heard something negative about yourself from a coach, from a teacher, from insecurities, from your spouse, etc you start playing it like a broken record over and over in your mind until it becomes a part of your story. Don’t do that! Stop receiving the negative things people say.

If faith comes by hearing then we need to be hearing faith. What are we listening to? Because what we hear is making us move. What moves in our lives have we been making that we don’t like? Take a minute to think about what you’ve been hearing and start making changes in those areas. If you want to make a change the Word will work, if you work the Word.

Here are four things we can do to make a difference in our lives.

1.)-Listen to things that will help you. A podcast, audible book, a sermon from your favorite pastor, uplifting music, etc. Surround yourself with a tribe of people who speak biblical truth over you in love. This is how you change your life! Romans 12:2

2.)-Hear it over and over again. The more something gets repeated the more likely we are to remember it. Luke 6:45 out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak. Mark 11:23 whoever says unto this mountain be thou removed and does not doubt in his heart but believes what he says shall come to pass. You have to say it to see it.

3.)-Be intentional. Be intentional to create space to listen to God. What does that look like? Buy a pack of post-it notes and write the things you want to be doing like: read my Bible, listen to a podcast, etc and stick them all over the place so you see them often.

4.)-Say what you are hearing God say about you. We are not going to get anything until we say it and we can’t say what the enemy says, we have to say what God says. We have to put a lot of God in us to get a lot of God out of us. We need to get to a place where we are bold enough to talk to that mountain and filled with faith to believe it will move.
