You Can’t Force Motivation

You Can’t Force Motivation

By Meggan Larson

It’s been a long time since I’ve exercised y’all. I mean a loooong time. It’s not something I particularly enjoy and to be honest I haven’t had the greatest results even when sticking to a routine for a while. That can get really discouraging and I know that your greatest success will come from changing your diet anyway.

All that being said…

Diet alone isn’t going to tone up my arms ~ ya get what I’m throwing down? I am in a new size and was gifted a bunch of cute clothes. One of the pieces is this super cute short sleeve jacket and my arms look a little thick in it. I mean it fits but no one wants to have their arms look like sausages in a cute jacket am I right?

This prompted me to start searching for workouts I could do to tone up my arms. As a side note if you ask a question like that on Facebook be prepared for a lot of duplicate suggestions (a lot!). So there I was digging out my weights again and doing real manly pushups on the daily (don’t get too excited, I could only do 10 the first day).

It occurred to me that I know all of the health benefits of exercise (or at least a lot of them) but it wasn’t until I wanted to tone up my arms that I started again. I even took before pics guys ~ this is serious stuff! It just goes to show you that you can’t force motivation. All of the knowledge in the world wasn’t going to get me doing pushups. I had to find something that I really wanted and for me, that had to be specific.

Weight loss, in general, isn’t specific enough for me. I needed it to be “I want my arms to look great in that cute green jacket” and that is what got me moving again. I’ve even considered jogging with my new dog.

Me.

Jogging.

Y’all don’t even know how crazy that is.

If you haven’t found your motivation yet don’t stress. It’ll come eventually. And when it does you’ll be sweating up a storm because you found the right motivation for you.

PS. Happy Canada Day to all my Canadians out there!!
