Why Doesn’t My Fridge Come With A Padlock?
by Hannah Keeley
It really stinks when you’re going to make quesadillas and you find out that one of your towering teens has eaten the last of the grated cheese! I don’t even know how that happened. They could have made nachos in the middle of the night. Or maybe they melted it on a dozen sandwiches that they ingested in record time. Or it could be that they just got a hankering for cheese so they opened the gallon size zip-lock bag and poured it straight into their mouths.
I’m not even joking. I wouldn’t put it past them.
If you’re a mom of teens, I’m sure you’re well aware of the fact that they can eat you out of house and home. Strike that. They can eat you out of house, home, vacation home, retirement, and college funds.
I’m seriously tempted to…
…buy a padlock and chain and post of hours of operation for my fridge and pantry. But I know my kids. They’re brilliant. They could pick a lock. They’ve seen Oceans Eleven.
I guess I’m just relegated to becoming even more cunning than they are and find new and improved ways to stretch the grocery budget. The other day one of my boys wanted some milk to go with his third bowl of cereal.
“Mom, we’re all out of milk.”
“No, we’ve got some more in the door in a plastic container,” I said.
“Mom, this is weird. What is this stuff?”
“It’s my homemade milk,” I said. “I made it out of brown rice and Kamut grain.”
Yeah, our kids may be brilliant. Brilliant and terrifyingly hungry. But that just means all of us moms have to step up our game. So, what are some of your best tips for stretching your grocery budget? Leave a comment and share!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
