When Your Heart Just Isn’t In It
By Meggan Larson
Do you ever find yourself looking around at all of the special ingredients in your kitchen and wanting to cry? Have you felt like you’ve been on a restrictive diet for years? Or are you at the point where you just don’t care anymore? It might be because your heart isn’t in it anymore. When this happens it’s really best to…
Take a break. I don’t mean go out to McDonald’s or Dairy Queen and eat your heart out. I’ve been there, done that, and let me tell you the t-shirt it comes with isn’t flattering. Binging on garbage, (let’s be honest, that’s essentially what it is) is going to be detrimental to your overall health both mentally and physically. So what am I suggesting exactly?
Take a break from the restrictions for a time. At this point, you know what’s good for your body and what isn’t. Eat when you’re hungry instead of timing everything perfectly. Forgot the protein in your lunch today? Oh well. Ate a bigger handful of nuts than usual? Meh. Had Dreamfields twice in one week? Whoops! No big deal.
If your heart isn’t in what you’re doing then give yourself a break for a bit. Don’t go in a completely new direction, but give yourself some extra grace for a bit. Sometimes you just need to do what’s right for your mental health more than your physical health because they’re so closely tied together. Don’t give up on your success completely but maybe just take a little mental break for a while. It might do you some good!
