When You Fall Off the Wagon

When You Fall Off the Wagon

by Meggan Larson

You know that I love ya right? You know that I would do everything I can to help you get and stay on track right? A mentor taught me something several years ago and it was a huge revelation for me. She said, “something’s gotta suck”. She was referring to getting out of debt and the sacrifices we need to make in order to do so. Sacrificing your daily Starbucks sucks, but so does being in debt. Which would you prefer?

Think about how it feels to be carrying that extra weight. This is what it feels like for me – it weighs down my soul, makes me feel ugly, unworthy, depressed, angry, sheltered because I don’t want to go anywhere, and basically causes me to feel like a failure because it’s too tiring to run around with my kids, or keep up with the everyday chores. When I’m overweight I feel as though I’m in prison. I don’t know if any of that resonates with you but it’s how 90 extra pounds felt for me.

Then came…

…the book, Trim Healthy Mama. I read through it and like most people, I was overwhelmed at first. It took time, it took patience, it took several failed recipes, it took thought, it took planning, and it took perseverance but finally one day it clicked and as a result, I lost 60lbs in a year just by eating. Did I enjoy the frustration of learning something completely new? No, not really. Did I love having to really think about what I was eating and how long it had been since I had eaten and what type of meal I was going to have or if I could have that snack I wanted? No. I would even go so far as to say it was kind of annoying. But (please hear me on this) something’s gotta suck! The thing that sucks can either keep you stuck and depressed, or it can push you out of where you’re at and help you achieve the goals and dreams you have for yourself. Let’s be honest, one of those things is worse than the other. 😉

So which struggle do you want? The one that keeps you overweight and frustrated? Or the one that ends with you in a smaller size crying happy tears in the dressing room when that size small shirt actually looks GOOD on you and you were in a size 22 a year ago? (Yep that just happened – boom!). One of those struggles is worth it and the other is not. Let’s not pretend that changing the way you’ve always viewed food is going to be a cinch. It probably won’t. But I can promise you that it will be worth it if you stick to it. You owe it to yourself to stick this one out. If you fell off the wagon consider this a hand reaching out to pull you back on. This wagon is heading to better health – you coming?
