When the Storm Comes

When the Storm Comes

by Hannah Keeley

Last week, I went outside and the winds were blowing something fierce! I looked up at the trees and they were swaying back and forth, almost like they were made out of rubber. And way up at the tippy-top, sitting in the branches, was a little squirrel nest.

For a moment I thought that the squirrel must be terrified. There he sat, in his nest, swaying back and forth in this windstorm. But then I realized that the squirrel was probably just fine. He lived his life doing what he was supposed to do, what God intended for him to do. He had faith in his nest and it was solid. No fear here.

But so many times, the winds of life can threaten to blow us over. It might be…

…marital stress, financial problems, relationships torn apart, extreme loss…for a moment there we think that we can’t possibly take any more. I know I’ve been there. I remember when I was pregnant with twin boys. Halfway through the pregnancy, I lost the babies and my world just crumbled around me. It was more hurt than I thought I could bear.

And I couldn’t bear it. That’s why God stepped in and carried it for me. When we let God live in our hearts, He gives us strength for every storm, a sturdy nest for every wind that blows. No matter what storm you are facing today, God is enough to see you through it. He speaks and the storm stops. He stretches out His hand and the waves are calm. He whispers and the demons scatter.

I love the story about the man who built his house on a rock. “So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon a rock. And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25).

The question I want to ask you today is this:
where is your house built?

God will always be enough for you, as long as you are letting Him be God. Give him the pen and let Him write out your life story. He brings in all the good parts and it always has a happy ending. The rains will come and the winds will blow. That’s a guarantee. But God promised that He would always be enough for us. Our house will hold firm as long as it is built upon the rock.

Go ahead, let the winds blow.

Nothing can touch you when you’re safe in His hands.

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
