When All Hope Seems Lost
by Meggan Larson
I had a bad day yesterday. Actually it was an entire bad week but it reached a particularly terrible climax yesterday for which I can only look back on with regret. I was in such a foul mood that my poor precious husband tried to take me out on a date to cheer me up and gave up about halfway through and just took me home. Even writing about it is making me cringe but I feel like I need to tell you this story because of the reason why I was in such a bad mood.
The reason is…
I had momentarily lost my hope. I got stuck inside my head for a few days and let the spiral of dark thoughts take over. You see I lost hope that I would ever actually lose all the weight that I want to. I began to feel like no matter what I did it was never going to be good enough to get to goal weight. That I would fluctuate back and forth between the same 10-15 pounds that I’ve been stuck at for months. I confessed to a good friend that I worried that I would always feel uncomfortable in my skin and not want to go out in case I ran into someone from my past who knew me when I was 70lbs lighter. I was in such a terrible funk and no one could get me out of it and everyone around me just stopped trying and let me be. I can’t blame them, it was wise on their part. I needed to get to the end of my own hopelessness and remember who my hope is actually in; and thank the Lord, my hope is not dependent on myself. I needed that reminder. I needed to remember that no matter how hopeless something seems, there is always hope.
