For centuries people have used essential oils as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Records dating as far back as the time of Christ show that oils were a part of society. Remember how the wise men brought Jesus frankincense?  Today the essential oil frankincense is considered a powerful oil and used all around the world.

It’s good to understand what is makes an oil an essential oil.  According to Wikipedia, an essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid that contains easily evaporated aroma compounds from living plants.  An essential oil is “essential” in that it contains the “essence of” the plant’s fragrance which is the primary scent of the plant from which it is derived.

More and more people today are turning to essential oils as a way to…

…stay healthy. Interest in essential oils has grown in recent decades with the popularity of aromatherapy, a different path of alternative medicine that claims that essential oils and other aromatic compounds have curative effects.  Just talk to anyone who has used oils for some time and they will tell you how it has benefited them physically and emotionally. Here are some common essential oils and some benefits to using them.Peppermint Oil – This lovely smelling oil has been known to awaken the senses and increase the oxygen level in the blood by just inhaling it.  It’s perfect for calming an upset stomach and can be easily added to some herbal tea and sipped on.  Many individuals find it helpful when dealing with sinus infections and the headache that sometimes accompanies one.Lavender Oil – Besides the lovely smell, this oil is known to calm your mood.  Many moms of little ones will diffuse this oil to help children relax before bedtime.  It is also good for soothing the skin from a minor burn.

Frankincense Oil – You know it has to be good if it was brought as a gift to Jesus.  In some circles, this ancient oil is known as the “king of all oils”.  It’s been known to help with clarity and focus, help skin inflammation and rashes, and boost immunity. Many people will combine this oil with other oils for an extra one-two punch against other problems.

Tea Tree Oil – This essential oil is popular in the skin care industry and can be found as a listed ingredient on many products.  It’s known to fight nail fungus, dandruff, and acne.  Some people like to use it for sore throats too.

Cedarwood Oil – This one may not be as well known as others, but its powerful scent creates a relaxing, comforting and calming atmosphere when diffused.

Clove Oil – More than just a Thanksgiving favorite, this oil is great for overall health and supporting your immune system, digestive support, and some physical discomforts.

There are many more oils and they all have amazing benefits when it comes to health and wellness.  The bottom line is that more and more families are turning to essential oils as their first line of defense to staying healthy.
