What Are You Focused On?
by Diana Scothorn
Every night I pick out my clothes to jump start the next day, and one evening I was looking for a white blouse with a broad black stripe trimmed around the bottom. My clothes are coordinated by color to make them easier to find, so I was in the black and white section.
I slowly went through each blouse one at a time but I couldn’t find my white blouse anywhere! After going through each blouse very veerrryyy slowly with no success, I decided to wear something else.
As I was walking away from the closet, a thought hit me…
…maybe that blouse is BLACK, with a WHITE STRIPE?? I turned around, walked back into the closet and went through the same section one more time, and immediately found it!
The Lord instantly spoke to my heart and said, “This is what happens when you’re in NEED of something and FOCUSED on the WRONG thing.”
Wow! What a Rhema Word in due season! God is always speaking, but unfortunately, we can NOT HEAR or SEE when our heart is turned away from God and our EYES are on our PROBLEM!
When our entire focus is centered around the pounds we need to lose, the house we need to clean, the debt we’re in, and the mistakes we’ve made, we’ll remain frustrated and just give up!!
Our answer can be right in front of us, but because our focus is on the wrong thing, we don’t see it! My blouse was right in front of me all along, but I was focusing on WHITE, NOT BLACK!
If we need to lose weight, and the focus is how we currently look, instead of focusing on the little steps of progress, we’ll get discouraged and quit!
I can remember struggling with my weight, and my focus was on the image I saw staring back in the mirror. My answer was to focus on my identity in the One who created me!
The Bible says in Ephesians 1:18-19, Jesus will cause the eyes of our understanding to be being enlightened, that we may know the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power. It’s through His power and His eyes that we gain a new perspective and the strength to finish our race. He provides us with the wisdom to know how to achieve our goals.
Sometimes it’s as simple as you wake up, and God takes your desire for food away and replaces it with a strong desire to seek Him deeper!
The Word says to Seek God First, His way of doing things, and He will personally take care of every need we have and add to our lives in ways we’re not able to!!! God has creative ways of provision!
He can find ways to bring what we need when we need it! He is your Answer! He can bring your MATE, RESTORE your MARRIAGE, find your new HOME, BRING PROMOTION, and cause your CHILDREN to turn back to God!
When we focus on Jesus, He will focus on our needs! I once heard a preacher say, the DEPTH of our PRAISE will DETERMINE the MAGNITUDE of our BREAKTHROUGH! Praise will cause the enemy to stop in his tracks!
Instead of magnifying our worries when we continually rehearse them in our minds and speak them out of our mouths, we should replace our worries with praising God for His Answer in advance based on what His word says about our situation!!!
We need to say, that nothing is impossible with God, and He will MEET ALL MY NEEDS with His Kingdom provision! No weapon formed against me, my family, or my career will prosper! I have the WISDOM of God and will make every decision concerning my life with CONFIDENCE and DIRECTION by the Spirit of God!!!!
When we focus on the problem, We will NEVER SEE the ANSWER! Our central focus will navigate the direction of our life! When our eyes are focused on Jesus, we will see the answer to our prayer was in front of us all along!
