Weathering the Storm

This past weekend, we had a DOOZY of a storm. All the power went out and stayed out (all night long and well into the morning). Experiencing a storm’s magnitude can be pretty daunting, especially when it feels as if the thunder is going to rattle the roof off the house. Well, this was one of those storms.

But it was so nice to be safe inside our home, even with no electricity. We lit candles, hung out in the living room, played, danced, and sang songs. It was actually one of the best evenings our family has shared in a long time.

There are going to be plenty of storms that we’re going to have to go through in life.

There will be times when …

our stomach gets in knots over stress, when our kids are having a tough time, when our husband’s lose confidence, when the weight of the world begins to press down on every fiber in us. But the beauty of the storms in life is that we have a place to go to. And more than likely, we will look back at those stormy times and realize that it was then that we did the most growing. The storms actually become the steps to a better life.

In John 16:33, Jesus tells us, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]”

How awesome is that? You can face the storms with courage, confidence, and certainty because you have an impenetrable fortress. When Christ lives you, you can step out with the knowledge that no matter what storm comes your way, no matter what situation you are facing today, Christ has already overcome it. He has deprived it of power to harm you! You can just look at that storm and laugh because it has already been defeated and you are already living in victory. Not tomorrow, not next week, not in a year or so when you think your victory will finally show itself. But right now. The victory is already here!
