Trim Healthy Mama Confessions
by Meggan Larson
It’s confession time! Don’t panic, I’m talking about my own confessions, not yours. It took me three tries to get completely on board with Trim Healthy Mama. The first time I was just winging it (unsuccessfully I might add) and ended up GAINING ten pounds because I didn’t understand what I was doing. Oh, you mean eating crossovers every 2 hours is NOT the plan??
The second time, I was on plan for three months and lost 20lbs but then I got pregnant and the nausea made it quite a challenge to not revert back to my old comfort foods. Also, the fact that my great grandmother died and there were butter tarts at the funeral didn’t help. I may or may not have eaten five of them in one day.
The third time I got back on the wagon I joined a no cheat challenge Facebook group and started making meal plans. I’ll be honest, I am not one that can jump on and off-plan. If I have a cheat meal it will turn into a full cheat day which will then turn into a cheat week, month, etc. So I just don’t go there. I knew that if I wanted to be successful then I had to…
plan to be successful. Success doesn’t just happen by accident. Ask any successful person and they’ll tell you that they were intentional about it. I had to plan every meal and snack in advance because if I tried to wing it I was going to fail. I knew that sugar had been my biggest weakness before THM, so I needed to make sure that I had plenty of on plan sweets around. And I do mean sweets. I’m sorry, but an apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon is never going to be a dessert to me, it’s just not. Knowing that about myself I made sure to plan dessert for every night of the week and most of my snacks involved sweetener of some kind. I ate a lot of cheesecake for breakfast the first couple of months. That’s not going to be necessary for everyone but it was for me and since I went from spending $30/week on candy at the bulk store to completely sugar-free as of July 1st, 2014, I’d say it’s working!
Whatever it is that you need to do in order to ensure your success with Trim Healthy Mama then do it! If it means eating cheesecake for breakfast for a while then so be it (not everyday mind you!). Your weight loss may not be as fast as others but so what? If the alternative is going to be eating donuts every day then this is a win for you! Focus on what you’re doing right and don’t compare your weight loss journey to anyone else’s. This is YOUR journey and it’s not going to look identical to anyone else’s; and it’s not supposed to.
