Time to Cozy Up
By Terri Bonin
The cooler weather will be upon us soon! I’m in Texas where it still feels like mid-summer but I know that other places North of here are downright chilly! I’m talking put the fire on, grab a cozy blanket, a good book, and burn a few candles season. I love all of those things except for the candles. I used to love going to the store and picking out yummy smelling candles that transported me to apple orchards or pumpkin patches. I used to breathe in deeply and happy sigh my way through the season.
That is until…
…I found out how toxic those candles are!
Y’all, I had NO idea that scented candles release millions of toxic particles into the air while they burn and are comparable to second-hand smoke. Yikes! Did you know that?? Goodness. Here I was slowly poisoning my family and friends by Eau de pumpkin spice. So sorry friends! I know better now so I don’t use candles anymore but that doesn’t mean I don’t get to enjoy the season with yummy smells. I changed out my candles for diffusers and now I diffuse 100% pure and therapeutic essential oils. My diffusers even have a candlelight setting so that it looks like a flickering candle while diffusing GOOD particles into the air instead of toxic ones. One of my fave fall blends is 4 drops of orange, 3 drops of cinnamon bark, 2 drops of rosemary, and 1 drop of clove. Yes, please!
It’s so important to know what’s harmful and helpful to your health. I don’t want to live in ignorance anymore. It’s easy to change out things like candles or toxic cleaning products. What’s not easy is dealing with a health problem because of things you could’ve changed sooner.
