Think About Today

I’ve often heard that the Trim Healthy Mama plan can feel incredibly overwhelming. I agree; I’ve felt that way from time to time – especially in the beginning. Trying to learn all of the new language and ways to view your food can feel like a full time job. I once took an intro to Spanish class and the second week in the teacher expected us to be fluent enough for him to speak only Spanish. My bestie and I just stared at each other with our eyebrows raised making sarcastic faces at each other while he carried on in a language we didn’t understand. THM can feel like that and it can be tempting to just roll your eyes and throw your hands up in the air.
But before you do that, just hear me out…
If you’re anything like me, you get overwhelmed easily when you start to think about everything at once. When you start to think about ALL of the things you don’t understand, and all of the meals you’re going to have to make, and the length of time it’s going to take you to lose all the weight you want to lose, then your eyes start to gloss over and you’re tempted to throw in the towel before you even really begin.
But what if all you had to think about was today? What if you just challenged yourself to succeed for today and today only. Forgetting about yesterday’s failures and not worrying about what temptations will be thrown at you tomorrow. What if all you had to worry about was breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a couple of snacks for TODAY?
Would that alleviate some of the pressure? So you’re terrified of E meals, have an S day! Or if you want to take it back even further, just separate what you normally eat by three hours for today. Test it out and see how it feels. I think we can agree that what you’ve been doing hasn’t been working so maybe it’s time to start something new. It doesn’t have to be a major upheaval.
You can actually take baby steps if you want to and take THM one day at a time. It’s not like we’re promised tomorrow anyhow. Today, right here and now, is what we have to work with – so make it work for you and stop trying to figure everything out all at once. Pick one thing and go for it! Don’t look at how many pounds you still have to lose before you get to your goal weight, just eat well today. My fitness pal app told me today that if everyday was like today I would lose over 10lbs in the next 5 weeks. Well I don’t know if everyday will be the same but I did my best today and that’s what counts.
