The Word Becomes Flesh

The Word Becomes Flesh

by Hannah Keeley

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14).

It’s amazing, isn’t it? The Spirit of God actually took physical form and walked and talked here among us. The spiritual became the physical. And that same process is still at work today. You cannot separate the spiritual from the physical. What is seen comes out of that which is unseen.

But HOW is it created? It’s created through…

the power of the Word!

Think back on when the earth was first created–

“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light” (Genesis 1:2-3).

The Spirit of God was hovering over the earth, hovering and waiting…

What was It waiting for? The spoken word! As soon as the word was spoken–BAM!–there was light! The Word of God is like the bridge between the spiritual and the physical.

The same force happened over 2000 years ago–

“And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1: 34-35).

The Holy Spirit was there, hovering, just like on the day of creation. Hovering and waiting… Waiting for what? The Word! And the word came immediately from Mary.

“And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her” (Luke 1:38).

Mary did something critical that day that completely changed the fate of the world. Her word came into agreement with the Word of God. Through the force of faith, she said, “Yes! I agree! I am your servant and let it be done to me according to Your Word.” That’s why the angel departed. He saw her faith and said, “Yep, my work here is done.” Now, the force of faith and the power of the Word could get to work creating that thing which it set out to do.

Do you realize what this means for you and me? God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). The same force He used to create this world and to bring His Son to earth is still at work today. His Word has gone forth to usher the spiritual into the physical. His Spirit is still hovering and waiting. Waiting for His people to come into agreement with it. Waiting for people to say, “Yessir! I”m your servant. Be it done to me just as You have said!

Jesus was there at the beginning. He was there at Bethlehem. And He is here right now.

“In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men” (John 1:1-4)

All things that are made are made through Him and the power of the Word. Remember, He is the Word. When you are reading your Bible, you’re actually spending time with Jesus. Kinda changes your morning devotion, doesn’t it? And that is exactly how things are made today–through Him and the power of the Word.

When you take His Word in faith and speak it with your mouth, powerful forces come into play. Why not put those forces to work for you? What does His Word say about you? About your abilities? Your health? Your family? Your finances? Your future? Put that Word to work in your life by believing in faith and speaking it with your mouth.

The Spirit of God is still hovering and waiting…

Leave a comment and let me know what you think about the force of faith and the power of the Word and HOW you are going to put it to work in your life today.
