Silent night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright…

Well yes, that’s the goal.  The holidays are a wonderful time of year AND they can also be stressful, exhausting, frustrating, and tend to bring on health challenges as the weather changes and the hustle and bustle abounds.

That’s why I think it’s so important to…

Of course, it’s important to choose healthy foods but what about choosing the right tools for emotional stability when every single one of your family members is in the same room. gasp!

Or to help give your immune system a boost so your body feels supported during cold and flu season?

So… what’s does a Momma keep in her secret weapon tool chest?….Essential Oils.

I suppose that essential oils aren’t such a big “secret” any longer and that’s for good reason.  But if you are unfamiliar with them, they are essentially the lifeblood of the plant…the powerhouse— the flowers, leaves, barks, roots, and fruits of plants.

These oils have been used for thousands of years for natural healing remedies for everything from emotional distress, to skin support, and so much more.

  • They help balance everything from hormones to supporting the digestive tract.
  • They naturally treat bumps, bruises, boo-boos and bites.
  • They help support you to feel relaxed, happy, enjoy better sleep, and of course feel more peaceful and calm. (and what family doesn’t need those benefits-year round!)

It’s extremely empowering to have all these precious little bottles in your Dr. Mom cabinet!

That is why, in honor of the holiday season that is upon us, I’m sharing my favorites we keep on hand below — here are my top 10 Essential Oils to Use to Survive the Holidays.

 

Forgiveness=Happy Hearts in the Home

We love this one to help create a more serene atmosphere in the home when tensions are running high. Best when massaged clockwise over the navel area and the heart as well as placed behind the ears and on the wrists. Great to wear as perfume or cologne!

Thieves = Immune support

It is a blend of Clove, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon & Rosemary.  A few drops on the bottom of your feet, 1 drop on your tongue and pressed to the roof of your mouth daily, diffused in your home, or put a few drops in a capsule and take orally — all methods will powerfully boost your immune system.

Peppermint = Digestion

Holiday gatherings can often mean over stuffing with heavy meals.  One of the best ways to counterbalance this and support a healthy digestive system is to use a drop of Peppermint on your tongue (just 1 because the oil is very strong!) before and after your meal, or even a drop in a glass of water.

Joy = My “Happy Pill”

Every single morning I rub two drops over my heart and then inhale the scent from the palm of my hands.  If you are feeling stressed, tired, or uninspired, this is the perfect oil to turn to for good vibes and choosing JOY! When diffused, it creates a warm, comforting environment and inspires a romantic joyous atmosphere (perfect for the holidays!) — it is a blend of Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lemon, Coriander, Tangerine, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, Palmarosa, and Rose. I personally love to diffuse this one with lemon or citrus fresh!

RC = Respiratory health

RC is best used on the bottom of the feet or the chest to support healthy lung function and your respiratory system and stands for respiratory congestion. It is a blend of 9 different oils used to:

– Support the respiratory system
– For cleansing and purifying
– For meditation and lifting the spirit
– Soothing for stressed muscles and joints

Lemon = Weight Loss Bonus

The citrus oils, lemon, tangerine, orange, and grapefruit, are some of the best oils to have around during a holiday party.  If you’re looking for a healthier alternative have soda water with a couple drops of a citrus oil for a healthy, delicious, and cleansing drink.This is a cocktail alternative that will leave you feeling better than before you had it — that’s a holiday win. Even better yet, 2 drops of lemon oil in water three times per day can support metabolism and weight loss.

Stress Away = A Happy Momma

Maybe it’s not your family that stresses you during the holidays but its the lines at the mall, cooking, traffic, or wrapping presents.  In ALL cases where there is any stress present, this oil is a momma’s best friend.  It comes as a roll-on and works immediately. It’s a blend of vanilla, lime, copaiba, and other pure essential oils that relieves daily stress encourages relaxation and reduces nervous tension. A MUST have!

Frankincense = Grounding & Spiritual Connection

Frankincense is the perfect oil for the Christmas celebration — it is an extremely relaxing oil (often used in meditation) and helps keep you calm, cool, and collected throughout the frenzy of preparing for and or attending a holiday gathering. Plus, it must be pretty important if Jesus was on the ground ten minutes and it was one of the gifts the 3 wise men showed up with!

Cinnamon Bark = Warming, Comforting, & Strengthening

Cinnamon Bark helps to keep you emotionally stable and balanced, similar to Frankincense. However, it also helps to refocus the mind, and boost energy after too much shopping or celebrating. Cinnamon can be diffused in any room to set the energy for holiday festivities or even baked into desserts and sweet treats.  For an overall immune boost, rub 2 drops on the bottom of your feet or back of your neck. (Also, wonderful spritzed over pinecones!)
