The Quittable Spot

by Hannah Keeley

I’ve been there.

I was there last week.

Actually, I was there at around 4pm today.

It’s that place I call the “quittable spot.”–the place where your energy wanes, your strength is zapped, and you just don’t see the point in continuing with the work. It could be when you have one more load to fold or a sink full of dirty dishes. Sometimes it happens when there are just too many weeds in the flower bed or your kids left the bathroom messy again. You are tempted to just throw up your hands and give up.

Listen to me, Mama…

Today is NOT your day to give up. Anyone could give up. It doesn’t take anything special to give up. In fact, that’s what most people do. Most people start diets but don’t finish them. Most people want to declutter but never get around to it. Most people have dreams but never put action toward them.

You are NOT most people. You are YOU, and you have the power of God Almighty coursing through your veins. God never gives up. God never lets go. Jesus could have given up. Can you see him? There He is, his body heaving with grief and exhaustion in the garden, wondering how he is going to do the task put before Him. Praying to the Father, “Please take this cup from me. I really don’t think I can drink it.”

He was at the “quittable spot.” He was at that point where you honestly don’t know how you’re going to keep going. You don’t think you’ve got it in you. You just want everything to stop so you can take a breath. But the world doesn’t stop and the demands keep coming. You don’t think you can take another step.

But you do.

Jesus did. He was at that quittable spot, but He didn’t quit. He said the five most powerful words ever spoken.

NOT. MY. WILL. BUT. YOURS.

He knew he could make the small choice. In fact, that’s what He wanted to do. That would have been the easy thing. But He obeyed God and took the tough road. God places tough situations in our lives to build us up for more. We need strength to handle all the blessing He wants for us, and that strength doesn’t come easy. It comes by taking one obedient step after another.

Jesus didn’t take the bait. He didn’t fold under the pressure. He took the cup and He drank it.

And here’s the kicker–you have the SAME power in you that Jesus has in Him. Jesus didn’t quit and neither will you. Today is NOT your day to quit. You will make the tough choices. You will do the hard things. You will take one more step. And you will get your victory because THAT IS WHO YOU ARE! That’s what defines you. You are a child of God, and because of that, you are unstoppable. You have the strength, endurance, wisdom, and sheer guts to keep going, even in that “quittable spot.”

You may get to that place, but you won’t stay there.

Today is NOT your day to quit!

What about you? Do you ever find yourself in the quittable spot? Leave me a comment and tell me WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT! I’m here with you; and together, we are going to come through it better than we were when we went into it. Praise God!

hannah_keeleyHannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!

This was such a great post! I have definitely found myself in that quittable spot before. I just always try to remind myself that the biggest victories come after you want to quit. Just keep pushing through! Motherhood isn’t easy, but so full of worth it moments!
