The Power of Praise
by Hannah Keeley
First, let me share a little of the back story with you. Here’s something I’ve learned about spiritual warfare. When you are inches away from a victory, that’s when the enemy throws every fiery dart he has in your direction. When the battle heats up, the breakthrough is imminent.
This week it really heated up on the battlefield. First, I wrote out a check for my tithe and stuck it in the mailbox just about an hour before the mail carrier swung by our house. She took the tithe check and in its place, dropped off a load of bills that could have fit into a wheelbarrow. Bills on bills! Bills from services I had no idea we even had. Bills from companies I didn’t know existed. It was ridiculous!
Later that day…
I was driving home from dropping my son off at football practice, and the thought of the unexpected bills started getting me down. There I was, at a stoplight, with a furrowed brow and piles of bills fluttering through my mind.
Then I jerked myself out of that funk.
“What am I doing?” I said out loud. I was the only one in the car, so I was evidently speaking to myself. I knew enough about how the spiritual world operates not to be suckered into one of the enemy’s schemes. He does the same tricks over and over because they work so well! I took those negative thoughts captive immediately! I snatched down those strongholds and starting fighting the enemy with the most powerful weapon I have…
That’s right. Praise works like a charm every single time. Satan would love nothing more than to keep you down and take your power away. But praise is where the power is! When you praise God in the middle of the storm, the clouds have no choice but to stop their showers and blow out of your way!
So, right then and there, before the light had a chance to turn green, I put some praise music on my phone and sang out my praises to God, with a “Thank you, Jesus!” and a “Glory to God” thrown in there for good measure.
Before I knew it, the bills were left somewhere down the highway and my heart was as light as a feather. Tears of joy began to flow down my cheeks and what started as an attempt to drive away the devil, soon turned into honest-to-goodness heartfelt worship. Praise won out. Satan couldn’t touch me!
Then the music was interrupted by a phone call. On the other line was an executive that was interested in picking up my television series. My heart jumped into my throat! My praise just ushered in this victory.
And I am certain–beyond a doubt–that the victory would not have occurred if I had let the stress keep me down. It was lying there, waiting for me to open the door and let it come in my life. And praise held the key!!
This week, when you’re tempted to get discouraged, keep this in mind. Your victory is waiting right around the corner. Open your mouth, lift your heart, and let the praise pour out! Your breakthrough will break through!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
