The Mom Script
by Hannah Keeley
It’s not easy being a mom. As a matter of fact, it’s the toughest job that you’ll ever love. But why do some moms go through the day with a smile on their face, staying on top of the housework and pouring positive energy into their kids, while other moms don’t seem to have enough time to take a shower or switch the laundry around, much less play with their kids?
I believe the secret is in…
…the messages we say to ourselves. We all hold conversations with ourselves all day long, whether we want to admit it or not. If you keep telling yourself you’re tired, then you’re going to be tired. If you keep telling yourself that you are energetic, then you’re going to be full of energy. It works either way—positive or negative. Isn’t that wild?
I find myself playing out the same positive mental messages over and over throughout the day. It wasn’t always this way for me. There was a time when my thoughts had a much different script. I would tell myself things like, “I’m worn out. I’m out of shape. I can’t do this. This is too hard. I’m a horrible mom.” It wasn’t until I changed my mental (and spoken) messages that I was able to begin changing my life. And as soon as my thoughts and words took a turn for the better, my life did as well. Now, these messages just play on automatic. When I feel that creeping nudge to leave the dishes in the sink overnight or throw on some frumpy clothes, I hear the message, “You can do this! You are stronger than a sink full of dishes. You are more beautiful than those frumpy clothes.” When I am tempted to talk harshly to the kids, I hear the message, “Your kids are a blessing and your words are kind and encouraging.”
As soon as you begin changing the script you hear in your head, you will begin seeing miraculous things happen in your life. I’ve written down some of the key thoughts that are important for moms, the ones I tell myself all day long. My hope for you is that they become your mental messages, too. Your best life is an inside job. It’s not a lucky break or trial and error. It’s the life you imagine becoming the life you live every day. Try repeating this little pledge every day, several times a day. But be careful, you may begin believing it. And if that happens, well, it could change your life.
The Mom Script
I am blessed beyond belief.
I am beautiful beyond compare.
I have the greatest career on earth and I will perform it
to the best of my God-given ability,
with gratitude, not grumbling;
with determination, not defeat.
I will rise to every challenge.
I will overcome every obstacle.
I will be productive and positive with every
moment and minute I am given.
My words will bless;
My actions will build;
My thoughts will empower;
And my life, my family, and my home will be
abundantly blessed as a result.
I am strong enough, smart enough, and creative enough
to squeeze every bit of juice
out of this ripe, delicious day.

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
