Step on the Scale or Not?

Step on the Scale or Not?

by Meggan Larson

I made myself get on the scale. I knew it would be awful (it was) and I knew that I weighed more than I wanted to (I did). I didn’t bother with excuses, I just did it. Then I spent time with Jesus and forgave myself for getting off track and gaining weight. I considered not jumping on the scale and instead just getting on track but then I remembered a very important lesson…

The truth is in order for any journey to be effective, you need to know where you’re starting from. When you go to any travel website you can’t simply book a flight to a destination. The first thing it needs to know is where you are starting from. You can’t get to where you want to go without knowing where you’re starting from. The same is true of debt, and the same is true of weight.

If you’ve followed my articles for any length of time you might be surprised that I’m suggesting you get on the scale. Usually, I caution people to avoid the scale if it’s a stumbling block for them. If you’re the type of person that defines your progress solely on whatever number is on the scale then yes I would suggest you put the scale away AFTER you do this first weigh-in. When you have a goal that you’re working towards and a plan to achieve said goal, then the number on the scale is merely telling you where you were at when you started the journey. There’s no need to be depressed about it, it’s just a number. Besides, you are the “before” picture right now and that means there will be an after picture as well. If you’ve really let yourself go then the before and after pic will just be that much more dramatic. Take your measurements for the days that the scale doesn’t move to show you how far you’ve really come.

Remember that this is a journey, not a race. You may stumble and you may fall but don’t let that stop you. There are times when you have gone so far off track and messed up so badly that you simply need to make a brand new commitment. It happens! If that’s you then make a new commitment to yourself to get back on track and get to your goal in 2021. If you’d like help to do that then please feel free to join the Release the Weight from the Inside Out Facebook community. Only request to join if you’re serious about getting to your goal this year!
