Starting Over
By Meggan Larson
As we discussed last week, “Sarah” had to start over. Okay, I’ll just admit that it was me. I was dissatisfied with how slowly my weight loss was going and then I wasn’t losing at all anymore and even started gaining back! The horror! So I let myself get distracted by all the other shiny diet plans and exercise plans and forgot how simple (and delicious) Trim Healthy Mama was.
Now that I’m back on plan 100% it feels like I’ve come home. It feels like I’ve come back into a warm home after spending the entire winter outside, in the dark, confused, and alone; in Canada. Okay, okay, it wasn’t quite that bad but my goodness I nearly forgot how GOOD “S” meals are!! And I’ve lost 6 & 1/2lbs in 9 days so it looks like THM does work after all! Which begs the question, why wasn’t it working for me?
Have you ever heard the saying…
…“familiarity breeds contempt?”. I spent several years on plan. I studied it and knew it like the back of my hand. In the beginning I would reference that book for everything. But there came a point where I figured I knew the book well enough to wing it. I knew the plan, coached others on the plan and they lost weight so I didn’t need to keep checking back. And I also could use the “personal choice” items whenever I wanted since I was seeing results.
Dreamfields pasta twice in one week? Sure! A quest bar sweetened with off plan sweeteners? Close enough, right? Looking back I can see where I started to fudge the line and make exceptions. I can see where I started to get off track and made poor choices too often. So often in fact that I thought I was still 100% on plan when really I wasn’t. And the scale was not kind. Nor were my pants by the way!
I’m making myself re-read the plan book because I can’t assume that I know everything there is to know. My coach has always said that when you’re green you’re growing, when you’re ripe you’re rotten. When you think you know everything that’s when you start to fall. Pride always comes before one doesn’t it? So this is me, humbly admitting that I don’t know everything there is to know and that I’m reading every single page of the book in order to get back to basics and back to losing weight the easiest way I know how. I have a goal to lose 20lbs before the end of the year and I intend to keep it! What’s your goal?
