Stand Up and Stand Out!
by Hannah Keeley
So many of us spend out lives trying to fit in. We worry about what people think of us, how they act toward us, and if they accept us or not.
It’s time to get over it!
Proverbs 29:25 tell us, “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.”
The “fear of man” means that we are more concerned with what others think about us, than what God thinks about us. When you are following God, you can rest assured that you will stand out. You will look weird. You will do the unusual and the bizarre. And here’s the big news…you’ve got to get used to it.
But rest assured. You’re in good company…
Noah looked like an idiot building a boat in a desert. Elijah certainly stood out when he preached naked. And I’m sure Peter looked like a lunatic when he went looking for money in a fish’s mouth. All these people had two things in common–they were obedient, and they did NOT care what people thought. And even if they did, they didn’t let it stand in the way between them and their purpose. What do YOU care what people think? Your life is way too big to care about that. There’s too much at stake to worry about fitting in.
God doesn’t want you to fit in. Everyone fits in. What’s the great success there? Where’s the accomplishment in fitting in? God didn’t create you for that. He wants you to be a light in the dark and a city on a hill. Jesus even told us not to hide our light. There is glory in you, Mama. Glory so big and so bright and so bold, that it’s got to get out to a world that is stuck in the dark, wasting away. Don’t hide your light and push that glory down anymore.
The world is full of conformists. But the reality is this–everyone craves the bold. They are desperately seeking some exclamations points in a world of run-on sentences, droning on and on and on. You were not designed to drone, you were made to DARE!
It’s time for you to push the limits. Stand out. Push away from the wall that has become your comfort and make your way to the dance floor. You can feel it. It’s the music of God Almighty that is pulsing within you, urging you to stand out, be daring, and do the unusual.
I was reminded of this when I came across this video the other day. This little girl didn’t know all the dance moves. She wasn’t concerned with fitting in. She just knew she had the stage and it was her time to shine. And guess where everyone’s eyes were…right on HER! The video is funny, but the message is very clear.
All the world is poised and ready. All eyes are on you. People are hungry and they need what you’ve got it. Don’t hide your passion anymore. Your life is a stage and God has placed you here for the performance of a lifetime. It’s not about getting the moves right or doing everything according to plan. Sometimes you have to scrap the plan and toss the routine. When God enters the picture, you just have to listen to His instruction and step up and stand OUT!
The end of that verse says that God wants you to be “safe and set on high.” The thing about being set on high is that it gets attention. You may not be comfortable with attention, but guess what. It ain’t about you. It’s about what God wants to do through you; and whether you like it or not, it’s going to get attention. God wants you set on high to reveal His glory and power! Don’t worry, Mama, His word says you’re safe. Let ’em look! Let ’em stare! Let ’em laugh! You’re safe and sound in God’s perfect and pleasing will.
Is there a passion burning within you? Of course there is! There’s something God has placed in you and it’s time to take the stage and let it all out. Leave a comment below, and share your passion with me. Let’s shake off that fear of man and let the dance begin!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
