Spring Into Action
By Meggan Larson
I love this time of year. It really puts a spring in my step and joy in my heart. The birds are returning from their winter away (I hope to join them next year), the sun is shining so much more, and you can smell the change in the air. Ahhhhh I just love the spring. Recently I decided to try something new. It has completely shocked my friends and family. It’s a huge change, it’s radical, and dare I say…daring! It has totally changed my routine, my parenting style, the way that I homeschool, and care for my house. I know, you’re dying to know what it is aren’t you?
I’ve been getting up earlier. I know it doesn’t seem like much but it’s made a massive difference in my quality of life. You see I used to stay in bed until 9 am (sometimes even later!). My husband has been off work for over a year due to his back and being the sweet man that he is, he’s let me sleep in basically every day. I was finding that by the time I got up it felt like half the day was gone. I mean really by the time I had coffee, brushed my teeth, and got ready for the day it was basically noon. That left a few hours to cram in everything I had to do and it was stressful.
Lately, I’ve been getting up at 5:30 am. It has been AMAZING! I’m up a full hour and a half before my kids, I spend time with Jesus, write in my daily gratitude journal, enjoy a hot cup of lemon water, and have done a solid 45 minutes of work all before the kids get up! We’re done homeschooling by 9 or 9:30 am and I have the rest of the day to enjoy my kids, make healthy meals (before I’m hangry), go for walks, get to the library, clean, organize, and still have some much needed alone time with my hubby in the evenings all while tucking myself in before 10 pm. You should have seen my husband’s face the first time I got out of bed willingly on my own. Priceless!
How does this help you with weight loss? When you’re not constantly rushing and stressing there’s more time to meal plan, exercise, and get your head in the game. Going off plan typically happens when you’re starving, rushed, and stressed. I just added four hours to my day and they are the hours I’m most productive in. Try it and let me know what you think!
