Holly on Hollywood – Spider-Man Far From Home

“Spider-Man Far From Home”
by Holly McClure

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME opens with a tribute to Tony Stark and the three other Avengers who lost their lives trying to save Earth. Peter Parker (Tom Holland), his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) and crush MJ (Zendaya), go on a class trip to Europe. While there, Peter is called on by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to fight an evil force along with Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), a mysterious human from a parallel universe who’s called Mysterio. Jon Favreau also stars.
The PG-13 is for occasional language, battle scenes with CGI creatures that look like water and fire, special effects, drones that fire on Peter and kids, there’s a romance between Peter and MJ that includes flirting, lots of discussion about liking someone/dating, and a few brief kisses. Characters are injured and shot at, there’s massive destruction in different cities caused by the monsters and Spider-Man is wounded saving the day. There are references to the late Tony Stark including a billion-dollar tech embedded pair of sunglasses (called Edith), that help Peter defeat the enemy. I enjoyed the fun banter, Peter and Ned exploring “first-love” romances, themes of courage and being true to your destiny. Peter’s struggle to figure out his place as either the “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” or the next Iron Man, make this a story that all ages will relate to and enjoy. Be sure and stay for the credits to get that surprising Marvel “sneak peek”, to the next Spiderman adventure!
