Speak to It
by Hannah Keeley
You’ve heard of “family curses” right? Well, in the family I come from, all the curses lie right between the thighs and the calves. That’s right ~ our knees! I come from a line of people who are notorious for having weak knees. My mom and one of my sisters have had total knee replacements. My other sisters have had knee surgeries.
Me? I’ve found a better way!
When my knees decide they are going to follow a generational path, I remind them that they are on a NEW path because they have been restored to fullness by God Almighty. Yeah, I know it sounds a bit “out there.”
But let me explain…
God’s will is that we all prosper and be in good health. His Word says that we will run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. He makes dry bones stand up and dance. He has counted every hair on my head. Surely, if He cares about my hair, he cares about my knees. It took me a long time to understand this, but God’s abundance is not limited to your spirit. That’s just the starting point. He has a will for your marriage, your money, your home, your kids, your career, and, yes, even your knees.
Now, let me ask you something. Bad knees run in my family. But when it comes to believing my history over God’s Word, which one do you think I will choose? That’s right! God’s Word. I’m going to believe it because it is Truth with a capital “T.” Not like the truth you find in a medical report. I’m the only one in my family who has never had any surgery, therapy, or treatment for their knees. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
See, I give my knees pep talks every morning. As I strap on my running shoes, I talk to my knees, “Now, knees,” I say, “listen up. You are strong. You will run and not grow weary. You are well able to perform the task in front of you. You are daily renewed and restored. Your bones are strong. Your muscles are strong. Your joints are healthy. You are able to do all things today. Now, let’s go!” Then I start running. And my knees hold up just fine!
Now, I couldn’t just spout out a pep talk without taking proper authority over the situation. I take supplements. I eat healthily. I exercise every day. I believe I am healthy (all the way down to my joints), so I’m going to treat myself like I’m healthy and expect to keep living a healthy, productive life.
If we are going to believe God’s Word over a situation, we need to treat it like that. If you believe God’s will is for you to be wealthy, then you’ll make choices like a wealthy person ~ someone who is making wise choices, investing their money, and growing their finances. If you believe God’s will is for you to be healthy, then you’ll make choices like a healthy person ~ someone who is eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising daily. If you say you believe God’s will but are not making the lifestyle choices that support it, then you’re really just making a wish, not stating a claim.
I’m stating a claim over my knees, based in the Word of God. You may think it’s a bit strange that I give my knees pep talks, but I want to ask you something ~ what are you giving a pep talk to?
Why not give a pep talk to your checkbook today? Or your blood pressure? Or your home? Or your depression?
Jesus spoke to a fig tree. He spoke to fever. And He told us we could do the same thing. He said in Matthew 21:21, “If you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done.’”
He didn’t tell us to beg and plead for God to get the mountain out of our way. He told us to operate in the power that God gives us and take authority over that mountain. Tell it where it can go! Speak directly to it!
So, I want to hear from you. What are you going to give a pep talk to today? And what are you going to say? Leave a comment and let’s take authority together!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
