Sing a New Song

Sing a New Song

by Diana Scothorn

I can recall a time when everything in my life was upside down. It was the same old thing day after day. The same loneliness day after day. The same brokenness day after day. The same misery day after day. Before I knew it, I was singing the same song about all the wrong things.

I was saying exactly what I was seeing. I learned that if I want a new life, I have to begin to SING a NEW SONG. I need to “say” something “new.” I can’t expect a different tune singing the same old song daily. It’s so easy to get caught in a rut and go day by day living; instead of enjoying each day as we go.

It’s easy to develop a spirit of complaining when things look like they will never get better. Psalms 96:1 says, “Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.”

We are not to sing a song of…

…ungratefulness, sorrow, and complaining, but a NEW song of gratitude, hope, and joy.

Things may not look good, but the Lord tells us not to look at what we “see” but to say what He says! Thank you, Lord, that even though I may feel sick in my body, you say I am healed by your stripes.

Thank you, Lord, although my bank account shows lack, you say You will supply all my needs, according to Your riches. Thank you your source never runs dry. Thank you, Lord, although my children have drifted away from our family, You said you would turn my children’s hearts, and they would come running back to their parents.

Thank You, Lord, even though I messed up yesterday, this is a new day and Your Mercy is free, and Your love will never leave me.

Thank You, Lord, that although I am single today, You have a perfect mate on the way. You said You would make my barren land fruitful.

The devil wants us to play “his song” repeatedly, so we will never have hope. God wants us to sing A NEW song so that He can do a NEW thing, and we can rejoice and enjoy our life.

There is not one thing we need that’s worth singing a song of grief or regret of yesterday when God has given us every reason to sing a NEW song today.

If we don’t like the song we are singing or our life, it’s up to us to SING A NEW SONG.
