I remember the first time I took Klara to get some fillings. After having so many children, I was pretty used to kids getting a little uptight about the dentist, but Klara threw me for a loop.
She wasn’t nervous at all.
Not an itty, bitty bit!
As a matter of fact, she just sat back in that huge dentist chair, surrounded by all that sterile medical equipment, crossed her feet, chilled, and took it easy. She didn’t even mind me taking pictures of her cute, little feet while her teeth were getting drilled! When we left, I told her …
that she did a wonderful job. She replied, “Yeah, it was just kind of like my teeth were on vacation and getting a massage and stuff.”
In the middle of a seemingly frightening situation (especially for a child), Klara was in total peace!
Jesus said, “I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27).
We can have peace because we know that God is in charge. No challenge can overtake us; no power can overcome us. That problem you are facing may be big, but God is bigger!
There’s a catch, though. You’ve got to be wearing the right shoes.
Scripture tells us that we need to put on the shoes of peace every day. Peace is not something that just “happens.” It’s a choice that we make. It’s going into the day knowing that God has already supplied the solution to every problem that you will face. Nothing comes as a surprise to Him and He is more than enough to meet your every need and much, much more.
Take time each morning to put on the shoes of peace. These are your magic slippers because peace can change your entire perspective. Say, “Thank you, Father, that you cover me, shield me, and you go before me. Today, I can relax and be at peace, knowing that nothing can happen that You haven’t already handled. I am going to glorify you by being at peace.”
I’ve also noticed that how I feel deep, down inside will often be the way my children feel. They pick up on it because we are closely tied together. When my first child had to go to the dentist, they practically had to hold her down with steel ropes! She was panicked because I was panicked (even though I tried to hide it). With Klara, I didn’t have a care in the world. I already knew what to expect and had confidence in the dentist, so she naturally picked up on that emotion. It came through in the peace she felt at the dentist.
God is the source of peace. As you draw closer to Him and spend time in His word, you will begin to show those same characteristics in your own life, just like our children model our emotions. People will be worried and stressed, but not you! You will have the peace and confidence that only comes through a close walk with God.
You are going to go a lot of places and walk into a lot of situations as a mom. But if you are stepping out in peace, you can walk in boldness, without fear and without worry. No matter what surrounds you, know this: God goes before you. He is clearing your path and defeating your enemies. Let peace be your go-to choice in footwear.
