Remain in the Game

Remain in the Game

by Diana Scothorn

Life can be challenging to say the least. I’ve learned I have to make up my mind to be all in and remain to experience success. There are so many opportunities not to be “all in.”

I’ve experienced tragedy, loss, sickness, abuse, death of family, abandonment, and failure, but when…

…we choose to remain, God will sustain us.

He will support us, hold us up, and bear our burdens! He will make sure if we remain in the game, we will win! It’s our choice to “be all in.” I had a choice to REMAIN when my life would have been easier to sit on the sidelines and watch. I could go through life half-hearted, or I could be all in, committed never to give up

Whether we become weary with our day-to-day routine, our hectic schedules, our rebellious children, or unwanted pounds, we have only one thing needed to conquer our battle; remain until we experience victory!

My husband played college football and loved the game. There was an interview with a player who was injured and was still playing. He said, “I’d rather play in pain and REMAIN in the GAME, rather than sit on the sidelines and watch the game being played.”

Too many times, the devil will convince us to sit on the sideline and watch our life go by as we nurse our wounds. I’ve found I can nurse and rehearse all my failures and hurts, or I can get in the game and push past my pain. Many times, athletes are injured, yet they bandage up and REMAIN the Game.

I’ve found if I push through and REMAIN, God will sustain me! I watched my mom when my sister went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly at a young age, as well as her husband eight weeks later with a massive heart attack. She chose to REMAIN in the game and continue to live!

My mom was an example and a rock in my life. Each day she awoke, and chose to REMAIN! She kept going with a good attitude from day one. I asked her one day, mom, How do you do it? Are you not hurting? She said, “Yes, Diana, I am hurting and feel pain, but I made up my mind to get up every day and put one foot in front of the other and let God do the rest. I have good days and bad days, but I embrace each day and choose to live it to the fullest.

She was saying; I choose to REMAIN in the game of life! We have to wake up and live despite injury or pain. God will see to it we experience fulfillment if we do not walk away and give up. Galatian 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Remain means to continue in the same state.

God wants us to continue in the same state, trusting Him with our hearts. He wants us to remain steadfast and unmovable, as He comforts, loves, and guides our steps each day. If we have the breath to live, He’s not finished with our life! The Bible says we’re to go from Glory to Glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). Translated, life is to get better and better! The devil wants to convince us our best days are behind us, not so!

Romans 8:28 says, “God works out all things for our good.” We only have to trust Him with our life to remain in the GAME! Tragedy, death, unfaithfulness, or any ordinances cannot hold God‘s goodness and purpose for our life!

We only need to REMAIN in the Game! As we continue to REMAIN, God Continues to show His unconditional, steadfast love.

I have lost two siblings, all my grandparents and both my parents, at a young age. However, I REMAINED, and God multiplied my family! My daughter and son in law have given me the gift of eight beautiful grand-babies

Although I’ve experienced unfaithfulness in a previous marriage and went through a devastating divorce, I chose to REMAIN. Today I have a husband who is a man pursuing God’s heart, who loves me tenderly, and ultimately beyond anything I’ve ever known!

I lost my home in a fire, as well as all my belongings. Yet, today, God has blessed me with a home beyond my wildest expectations! I’m so glad I DECIDED to REMAIN in the game and trust God with what I didn’t understand! It’s a choice only we can make for our life.

We can sit on the sidelines and watch life go by or REMAIN in the game and enjoy an abundant life, all because God honors those who choose to REMAIN! When we choose to REMAIN, God will strengthen us to stay in the “game.” It doesn’t matter how we feel or think; it only matters that we trust God enough to sustain our life as we remain!
