Release to Receive
by Diana Scothorn
The Bible says that there are good things in life that can still not be profitable for our life; Meaning, there are things in life that are not necessarily bad for us to have, but not profitable for our future! We can take for granted the beauty and simplicity in the things God has given us if we rush through life striving!
I’ve learned…
God wants to take us from complicity to simplicity to free our life from stress. The enemy (the devil) will use stress as a way to keep us from hearing God’s “still small voice” and, ultimately, stealing our peace. I like to say it this way; “peace is the glue” that holds emotions intact! Peace keeps us from falling apart under pressure! When we have the peace of God, the world’s stress cannot contain the plans God has for our future! God often asks us to release to receive!
I can remember a time in my life when I managed lady’s health clubs, and God had clearly released me from that industry, and yet I still wanted to hang on to teaching private classes on the side! My new schedule and career required me to be hundreds of miles away from home, yet I would stress my schedule out to make it back several times a week to teach these classes, despite God releasing me from the industry!
I was doing a good thing, and I saw nothing wrong with it. I was able to help people get in good physical shape and stay in shape myself. It was profitable for their body and my life! I wasn’t doing anything harmful. I found myself trying to reason with what I wanted to do, despite what God has instructed me to do!
I was holding to something God had me to release. He never said I could not work out and stay in shape. He wanted to release me from the obligation and commitment, which would keep me in a frantic state and ultimately cause me to lose focus on my current commitments!
I have learned its wisdom to obey God! On the other side of my prompt obedience is the blessing that is profitable for my life! There comes a time that is necessary to release in order to receive! When we hang on, what we’ve been told to release, we cannot receive what God has prepared for us to grow!!
