Progress Pictures Matter
By Meggan Larson
The other day I was at a new low weight and I put on an old favorite t-shirt and it was SO loose on me! Oh my goodness, it felt amazing to put it on and see that. Previously I had always worn it with a sweater to cover my stomach pooch (y’all know what I’m talking about!) but now I could wear it on its own and it was loose! It made me want to go back and look at my previous progress pictures and in that moment I was so glad that I had some! You see at the time of those pics it was discouraging and frustrating and the last thing I wanted to do was…
Take a pic of myself ya know? But I knew that if I stuck to my goals then those pictures would serve as my before pics and I would have an after picture. I’m still on the journey but it is so very encouraging to see how far I’ve come. I use a very simple free app called layout to make a collage of my progress pictures so that I can see them side by side. It’s funny how quickly you can get down on yourself for a cheat meal when you don’t pull yourself away and look at the bigger picture.
There is such a difference between what I looked like 9 months ago and now and that difference is positive. If I had refused to take that first picture then I wouldn’t have a marker to tell me how far I’ve come. We tend to be our own worst critics but you can’t argue with pictures. I see those pictures and even on my bad days, I’m encouraged because I am NOT where I was. If you haven’t taken any progress pictures yet I highly encourage you to take one! Sometimes it’s the kick in the butt we need to get back on track anyway.
