Press In
by Diana Scothorn
I have learned that if I want something badly enough, I must be willing to press in to receive what I desire! The devil wants us to give in; God wants us to press in! The Bible tells us we are to come with confidence, and draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to obtain help in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
My daughter played high school and college basketball. In basketball, they would do what was called a full-court press. It was a defensive style where the defense plays man to man or zone defense to pressure the offensive team. Some presses attempt to deny the initial inbound pass and trap ball handlers in the backcourt.
That same pressure applied in a basketball press is what we need to do when…
Satan tries to apply pressure to keep us from obtaining our desired goals. It traps him in the backcourt where he cannot get through! When we experience loss, the devil makes us think it’s over!!! Not So! We have access to the provision in God’s inner court, where the devil has no access.
Philippians 4:13 tells us to…”Press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us.” We need to press into God and deny Satan access into our life! Whether we’re pressing into a better marriage, more self-control, or better health, we have to refuse the devil’s entrance into our life!
God’s throne is in the inner court, and in His court is protection, love, and security that gives us the confidence to go forward without fear. No weapon the enemy tries to penetrate can break through the court of His throne of grace!
The Word says we can come boldly to His throne of grace and obtain mercy and help in our time of need. When we press into God, it pressures the devil. It causes him to lag because he doesn’t have access to the inner court of God’s great provision and love! Where the presence of God is, the devil has to flee and leave me alone.
When the devil tries to press into my life, I have learned to press into the inner courts of God’s great grace! Where pressure abounds, God’s grace abounds much more!
