Pregnancy is Possible
by Drenda Keesee
Every child is a miracle handmade by God. If you look at how a baby forms, each cell multiplying and dividing in perfect symmetry, it’s hard to deny that there is a God. I’ve met many women who have wanted to have children, but for one reason or another, they were not able to. Some were told it was impossible for them to get pregnant. But I’m here to tell you, nothing is impossible. If you have tried to get pregnant or have had doctors tell you it may be impossible, don’t give up hope.
When our first child was a few months old, I started experiencing some physical symptoms and pain. I found out that I had…
…a tumor on my ovary, and I believe it was because I had grown bitter in my heart about some past situations. Unforgiveness and bitterness kill your spirit and body! Anyway, I had to have surgery to remove that tumor, and they told me I may have difficulty getting pregnant. They also warned me not to get pregnant for some time because it may not go well. However, I really wanted a son, so we prayed about it. Those predictions and warnings about not being able to get pregnant again tried to come back to my mind. But we prayed and asked God for a little boy. Three months after I had the surgery, I got pregnant with a little boy! I had no complications with the pregnancy, and the baby was born perfect.
I had to identify the root cause of the physical issues I experienced, and God showed me it all came back to unforgiveness. I have prayed with many women who have been unable to conceive, and we traced it back to emotional trauma, pain, bitterness, or regret. Our emotions have such an influence on our health, and I challenge you to evaluate your emotional state if you are experiencing physical problems. Kristen and her husband Brian had wanted children right away after marrying in 2001. Kristen’s dream was to be a wife and mommy, and she couldn’t wait to conceive her first child. But it didn’t happen. For six years they longed for a baby and tried everything from doctors and prescriptions to acupuncture and homeopathic remedies. Then she finally got pregnant, but right away the doctor said it was not a viable pregnancy and the baby would not make it. A miscarriage followed. Kristen gave up at that point. Doctors diagnosed her with “unexplained infertility.” She started to grow bitter and even angry when she heard others were having children.
It wasn’t until she started attending our church with her mom that her hope returned, and she and Brian decided to believe again. We prayed for her one weekend at church to conceive a baby. She says there was a lot of emotional hurts she had to release to God, and He not only healed her emotions, but He also healed her body. She found out soon after that their dream had come true—she had a viable pregnancy. She carried their baby girl to full term and finally had the result of their faith. Eight months later she conceived her second daughter and again experienced a wonderful pregnancy and birth.
Have faith that God can heal your body if you have experienced complications or infertility. Rest in God’s peace, speak His Word over your body, and trust that He is bigger than any bad prediction or diagnosis. Through their own life experiences, the Keesee’s have found the principles from God’s Word to be powerful and effective. At one point, Drenda was a young, suicidal feminist with no hope of ever being “good enough” for her own standards of perfection. She never wanted the “inconvenience” of a husband or children, and she was on her own path to success. But the stress of trying to achieve perfection and perform for love left her broken and used. She had success, but it was nothing compared to the pain and loneliness it had also brought.
That’s when God got a hold of her heart. It was there—at her lowest point—that she found the One who accepted and loved her, faults and all. Since that transformation, Drenda has had a passion to reach women who find themselves where she once was.
She married Gary after attending college, and there she found herself in a personal boot camp of sorts. She says, “I cried and told God, ‘I can do anything but be a wife and mother.’” She committed to learning how to do it God’s way. Through the many years of raising their children and struggling to make ends meet, Drenda learned from their mistakes. “I didn’t know how to be a wife and mother, but God saved our marriage, taught us how to parent our children for success, showed us how to have financial success, and then the irony of all ironies, He called us to ministry.” It’s truly because of these life experiences that Drenda can now share so many insightful principles for people who are now going through the same struggles.
