Planning Your Gorgefest Meal

By Meggan Larson

I’ve been seeing it often lately. “Come January 1st I’m back on track”, or “I’m eating whatever I want until January and then it’s go time.” I get it. December seems to be the anything-goes month. It’s the “forget about your diet because January is around the corner month” but that attitude comes with consequences. You already knew that though.

What you might not know is that…

It’s possible to change your mind. Shocking news right? It’s true! You don’t actually have to throw caution to the wind this month. You do in fact have the capability to stick to your guns and finish the year off stronger than you started it. You can plan out your holiday treats, make sure your freezer is stocked with easy to grab sweets and plan out your Christmas dinner to avoid gorging on stuff that will make you regret putting pants on.

Or you can do what I’m planning. I have a fondue every year for my birthday Dec 27th, and there is usually so much leftover that we invite some friends over to do what we call Fondue Part Deux (I don’t know how it got a French twist but moving on…) on New Year’s Eve. That means that I finish off every year with two giant meals cooked in peanut oil and I typically gain a few pounds. I don’t want to go into the new year feeling like I’m going backward, so I have a goal of where I want to be at the end of the year and I plan to lose enough weight during the month so that I can enjoy those meals guilt-free and still hit my goal. That means that my focus for the month is staying on track and losing weight so that I can enjoy my birthday week of fondues.

There’s nothing wrong with planning out a meal like that. The trouble comes when there’s no plan and it’s a few cookies here, two slices of pie there and all of a sudden you’ve gained 10lbs in the month of December and it took you from September to December to lose those 10lbs in the first place! Don’t do that to yourself friend. Make a plan, stick to it, and enjoy your holidays however you want! Just remember that Christmas is one day, not a whole month.

Meggan Larson is a wife, mom of three, and challenge overcomer! Being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and undergoing aggressive chemotherapy when her second born child was only three months old, gave Meggan an expected twist to her life. Dealing with pregnancy weight gain and the debilitating effects of chemotherapy, Meggan’s weight soared to over 228 pounds. Feeling humiliated with no desire to socialize, Meggan was desperate for a change. Shortly after losing 20 pounds with the Trim Healthy Mama program, Meggan found out she was pregnant with baby number three, which ended in an emergency C-section and unexpected hysterectomy. Despite the challenges she faced, Meggan has just celebrated her five year “trimiversary”, and her success of releasing just over 60 pounds! Meggan is confident that her success on plan is “doable” for anyone looking to gain back their health and wanting to live a trim and healthy lifestyle!
