Pick A Meal, Any Meal
By Meggan Larson
If you’re anything like me then when you start something new, you tend to go all in. So for example, when starting THM it’s possible that you bought every ingredient you could possibly need and shocked your husband with a $500 Costco receipt for the week. You may have spent your first week cooking up a storm, throwing most of it out, getting frustrated, and wanting to give up. You may have forced your family to try out your new concoctions and become discouraged when they weren’t quite as enthusiastic about you were at the thought of drinking apple cider vinegar. Now you’re at the point where you’re so fed up that you’re wanting to just go back to your old way of eating because at least it made everyone happy.
Don’t give up just yet…
It’s true that if you don’t change, nothing changes. But that change doesn’t necessarily have to happen all at once. It doesn’t have to be a super dramatic chuck-every-piece-of-junk-food-in-the-garbage type change. There are many successful Trim Healthy Mamas who have started out a little simpler. They started by picking one meal per day that they would make on plan as they learned the ropes and made it as easy as possible.
Eggs for beakfast (S), boneless and skinless chicken with a side of rice for dinner (E). It can certainly be tempting to fully embrace a complete lifestyle change but what we should be going for is a lasting change. While some people can maintain a complete 180 degree turnaround, many of us will not stick to it.
The goal needs to be a sustainable change that we will stick to in order to achieve our desired results. If that means that you need to start off a little slower then that is perfectly acceptable and frankly I’d recommend it. I can’t tell you how many programs (workout or otherwise) I’ve started but not finished. The only times I’ve really stuck to something is when I’ve taken it really slowly and just focused on one thing until that became second nature and then I would add in the next step.
If it takes you a few months to get to the point where all of your meals are on plan then so be it! What’s the rush anyway? Wouldn’t it be better to take it slower and know that you’ll stick to it than to rush in and burn out before getting to your goal? Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. This is YOUR path and you need to walk it the way that’s best for you.
