Our Valentines Traditions
by Terri Bonin
How will you celebrate Valentine’s Day with your spouse? Where we live… enjoying a delicious meal at a quiet restaurant is out of the question unless reservations are secured a month in advance! And neither of us is quite that organized. Our Valentine’s panic usually goes something like this, “OH MY WORD! TOMORROW’S VALENTINE’S DAY!” And we each run to Walmart to stock up on cards and candy for the kids and each other.
But that’s OK. I like our style.
I don’t prefer the over-stuffed restaurants and insane traffic.
It’s Crazy.
But I’d rather…
…stay home.
So my honey and I traditionally eat chocolate we purchased in a hurry, stare into each other’s eyes, and give each other back massages. (Ok, maybe not the stare into each other’s eyes; but we definitely go for the chocolate and back massages!)
Chocolate and a back massage with the one I love…who could ask for more on that special night, right?
But I am particular about both. Give me dark, salted Ghirardelli. The best.
And…
A smooth, warm, but most importantly, pure massage oil. I mean, who wants sticky and toxic goop rubbed on their skin? I know the oil is going to get absorbed through my back…and potentially my whole body that is …if the kids don’t have a crisis in the middle of our fun!
Our current FAVORITE one is Ortho Ease by Young Living with extra drops of Lavender.
We add the Lavender because my husband loves the smell and I like the warmth which leaves a fun tingly effect to every area it might be applied to! The Lavender gives off warmth that keeps me comfortable when my back is exposed. The Ortho Ease is smooth and really doesn’t need anything added to it; we just add it for fun…hehe!
Anyway, there’s a peek into the way we traditionally spend Valentine’s ( or other romantic nights together!)…And yes, even after twenty-five years of marriage, 11 kids, multiple pets, and too many loads of laundry to count…it’s a must to keep the passion alive in your marriage! It doesn’t matter if it’s Valentine’s day or just your weekly date night…make time for each other!
Do you have any special traditions?
