Our Beautiful Identity in Christ

Our Beautiful Identity in Christ

By Hannah Bollinger

My typical week is a mix of spending time with my 4-year-old son, doing laundry, scrubbing dishes, grocery shopping, making meals, cleaning up messes, and enjoying moments with my husband when he’s not working. I savor the occasional mama time-outs to jog outdoors, enjoy authentic conversation with my girlfriends over coffee, or write.

I take on many roles and get busy doing, but I’m also learning the importance of…

pausing to simply be with God. His fatherly whispers gently remind me that who I am, first and foremost, is His Beloved Daughter.

Our Maker fearfully and wonderfully made us in His glorious image (Psalm 139:14). He designed us with such care and concern, paying attention to even the tiniest details. We are His Daughters, whom He dearly loves.

Despite our flaws, in Christ, we are made new and God sees us as righteous. We may not always feel this way, but our worth doesn’t change based on our momentary feelings or what others say about us.

Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” – Ephesians 4:24 (NLT)

Before my motherhood days, I slept more, exercised more consistently, and delighted in more quiet moments. But there’s something freeing about coming a little undone. Whether I’m plain Jane without a speck of make-up and sporting a messy bun, or I’m put-together mama with styled hair and a color-coordinated outfit — my worth is in Christ alone.

When Jesus lives in us, His light radiates through us regardless of how polished or unpolished we look. We don’t have to prove anything to the world, even though I know from personal experience how tempting this trap can be. Striving to be someone that I’m not or comparing myself against others, has never produced good fruit in my life.

Living out of my identity in Christ, is where I experience freedom and the abundant life I was created for.

There is peace in knowing that we are marked with His stamp of approval. Each of us have a unique purpose for being here, and as we choose to embrace our true identity, we flourish into the women God created us to be. We experience joy and do work for His kingdom by letting Jesus shine through us.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” – Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Whether we’re at the kitchen sink scrubbing dishes for the tenth time in one day or checking items off our to-do-lists, breathing in the truth about Whose we are can enliven even our daily routine.

Despite our successes or mess-ups, Jesus treasures us the same. We are Beloved Daughters of the King of Kings, and He invites us to walk this life journey confident of our unchanging, beautiful worth in Him.
