Open Wide, Mama!
by Hannah Keeley
My daughter, Kenna, can seriously put away some food. In that respect, she is a lot like her mama! Both of us love to eat. We’ve never met a carb we didn’t like. The other day, when we went out to eat, she ate five rolls before her meal arrived. Then she ate her meal. After that, she split an enormous dessert with her sister, Klara. For the life of me, I don’t know where all that food goes in that tiny, little body!
Kenna understands the concept of “open wide.” She’s not afraid to order the biggest meal on the menu. She’s not hesitant about grabbing some snacks from the pantry. When she sees something delicious, she steps up and dips it out on her plate.
If Kenna is hungry, she eats. It’s that simple. If there is a plate of food in front of her, she opens her mouth and fills her body. Therefore, she’s never hungry.
We live in a day of hungry souls. So many people are living in scarcity. “Not enough” is their constant state of being. Maybe that’s where you’re finding yourself right now–in the land of lack…
But, as a child of God Almighty, fullness is your birthright. You have every right to be filled to abundance in every area of your life–your emotions, your finances, your home, your relationships, everything! God doesn’t want you living in lack, when He has called you to abundance. So when you find yourself living with hunger pangs for something better, what can you do about it?
First, you need to understand that God is your Source. You are a child of God. That means that you are royalty! Kenna will never go hungry because she has parents who are fully able to supply food for her. You are never meant to live a hungry life because God is your Father and He owns everything. He is not short on supply and never will be. If you have a need, you can rest assured that God can fill it. It’s time to quit trying to figure out how YOU are going to solve a problem and find an answer, and start trusting in God, who already has exactly what you need. He doesn’t want you groveling on the floor searching for crumbs. He has prepared a feast for you, so stand on His Word and have a seat at the table!
Second, you need to realize that God’s grace is for now AND later. Religion often teaches us that God is going to make everything right when we finally get to heaven. That’s true. But the bigger Truth is that God has already made everything right right now. We don’t have to wait to get to heaven to live with abundance, peace, joy, and prosperity. We can have all that right now. Jesus even said, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Jesus didn’t just die for us to get to heaven. He died so we could also bring heaven to earth right now. Don’t fall for that religious lie that we’re supposed to suffer while we’re here. Jesus took all that suffering to the cross and buried it. He died so we could live. He became poor so we could become rich. He bore our sicknesses so we could live in health. You can’t earn this grace. It is given to us through Jesus Christ. Not based on our performance, but all based on God’s promiseI know this area is full of a lot of heated debate. But go to God’s Word and find out for yourself. Don’t be that person who fights for her right to live broke, busted, and sick. Fight the good fight of faith and start receiving all that God has for you. Don’t wait until you get to heaven. Start living the resurrected life right now!
Third, you got to have faith. If Kenna ever got hungry, it wouldn’t be because I couldn’t supply her with food. It would only be because she failed to eat. God is not going to force His goodness and grace on His children. He is a loving God, Who allows us to choose. Psalm 81:10 tells us, “I am the Lord your God, Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.” God is able to fill our lives, but many times we fail to open up wide to His fullness. The kingdom of God has to be taken. No one spoon feeds Kenna, she gets out a plate, steps up to the front of the line, and dips out a heaping helping. God expects you to do the same. We can only receive from God what we can believe for. What limits are you placing on Him today? Don’t just barely part your lips. Open up WIDE! I promise, the biggest thing you can dream up for your life, God is dreaming up something bigger, but it requires faith. Hebrews 11:6 says that it is impossible to please God without faith. And it is also impossible for God to please us without faith. He wants to bless you, but you’ve got to open up and believe that He will. Start trusting Him today. It’s time to move out of the land of lack and into the kingdom of God, where everything operates in overflow!
So, what about you? Are you ready to open wide and let God’s goodness fill you up to overflow? I would love to hear from you. Let me know your thoughts by posting a comment below, and make sure you share what you are believing for, so I can come alongside and believe with you. Let’s make this happen–together!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
