Sick of picking up after your husband? I feel your pain, mama.
But, before we start the badmouthing, let’s get one thing straight, here…
Nagging doesn’t work.
Pleading doesn’t work.
The silent treatment doesn’t work.
Yelling doesn’t work.
Subtle, cutting remarks don’t work.
So, what does work?
Well, you may not want to hear this, but this is what works…
SERVICE! This is after twenty years of marital bliss and enough pairs of dirty underwear to comprise a landmark that is visible from outer space. Trust me, if your tactics aren’t working, there’s a big chance that they are hurting, instead. You don’t want that!
Service has gotten a bad rap recently. It seems if someone serves then they are doing something “beneath” them. This is ego talking, mama. And if you listen to your ego long enough, you’re going to dig a hole and bury yourself. Your ego lies to you. Don’t listen to it.
The truth is this: we get out of life what we put into it. It’s called the law of sowing and reaping. If you want people to encourage you, then start encouraging them! If you want people to honor you, then start honoring them! And if you want people to serve you, then start serving them!
If you’re waiting for your husband to “come around and start pitching in,” then you’ll be waiting an awfully long time and probably never see things turn around. You’ve got to be the change. Start serving with a joyful spirit and resolve yourself that you will continue doing so EVEN IF YOU DON’T SEE AN IMMEDIATE CHANGE! Sometimes, the mightiest trees take the longest time to sprout and grow. Give it time and don’t lose heart.
Service does amazing things. Try it and see what happens!

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
