Making Right Decisions

Making Right Decisions

by Diana Scothorn

In my past, I was conscious of everything. The way I looked, what I said, what people said, what people thought, and who was looking.

However, I’ve learned it’s essential to be Spirit conscience. To be conscience means the “inner sense” of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motives that impel one towards the right action.

To have the right motives, you must be led by…

…the right Spirit!

Our spirit is leading us every day. It’s up to us to follow the inner nudge or tugging in our hearts. When we ignore that gentle tug, we are taking counsel from the wrong spirit.

Galatians 5:17-18 says, “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish.

The devil is all about us doing whatever feels good. We live in a “feel good” society. Eat what you want, go to bed when you want, stay up late if you want to, and say what you want. We can “play” now, but the devil will make sure we “pay” later.

1 Corinthians 10:23 states, “All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All items are permitted, but not all things are constructive to the character and edifying to spiritual life.”

When I was full of myself, concerned about “me,” how I would make it, how I felt, and how it would affect me, without consideration for others, I can tell you it was not the spirit of truth leading the way.

John 8:32 s, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” God’s Spirit does not lead by feelings; He shows in truth, always, in every situation. It may not be comfortable, but His truth will be profitable for our life. The Holy Spirit is a “safety net” around our life!

I have found the quickest way to get myself in trouble is to ignore the “still small” voice on the inside. The Voice of God, though He is Powerful and Mighty, is gentle within our hearts.

His Spirit will not force His way in but gently instruct us how we should go. It’s up to us to listen, trust, and obey. The more we lean in to hear, the more His whisper becomes clear.

How I feel, look, and think is a dangerous way to decide where I go, what I do, and what I say. If we listen to the voice of truth, our life will not be compromised by the voice of deception.

If you do today what you know inside is the right thing to do, you will be satisfied tomorrow with the fruit of your decision, and your life will reap the rewards!
