Make Time For You

Make Time For You

By Meggan Larson

I’m in a season y’all. This may be the busiest, nuttiest, most exhausting season of my life so far. I’m getting my house ready for sale with three kids running around and my husband working twelve-hour days. I don’t even know how I managed to accumulate so much STUFF but goodness I am ready to just throw it all away. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve been mortified at the state of my house when someone unexpectedly stops by… There’s something that I haven’t done though and that’s been taking a toll on me. I didn’t notice at first but the longer time went on the more irritable I was.

What was it, you ask?

Me time!

I know the term self-care gets thrown around like confetti these days but it really is a valid thing. I wasn’t reading my bible, I wasn’t writing in my journal, I wasn’t even making myself a salad for lunch anymore! At busy times like these, we tend to believe that we don’t have time for those “things”. We’re too busy, there’s too much to do, we can’t take a break. That, my friends, is a recipe for burnout. All that will do is ensure that you stay in a high state of stress and bark at the people you love the most. Crazy right?

By not taking the time to take care of myself I will have more energy to do the things I want to do. Making a salad for lunch takes all of five minutes but it ensures I take a break, get some vital healthy nutrients into my body, and get enough fat into my system to keep me going. This season is a sprint and I need to fuel my body properly. If I do what seems easy and eat take out or other “quick” foods then I’ll feel sluggish and lazy and fat. It’s not too easy to run the race when you feel like that. No matter how busy this season is for you make sure you don’t neglect the very person you need to get everything accomplished; YOU!
