When the weather heats up, our clothes start peeling off. Sweaters give way to tanks and jeans are cut off into shorts. Before you know it, it’s time to slip into that swimsuit and head for the pool.
Oh, if only it were that easy.
The unique combination of a hot summer day and a full-length mirror is sometimes enough to make a mom reach for the nearest muumuu (and, yes, I did have to google that for the correct spelling). Well, if summer is making you hide from the bikinis, then check out these tips for looking good when you’re wearing less…
A little color goes a long way. We all know by now the sun can wreak havoc on your skin. Still, no one can deny that a touch of color makes you glow, especially when you’re showing more skin. Fortunately for us, we live in an age where we can grab a bottle of instant tanner and look as if we just stepped off a Caribbean cruise ship. If you want to go gradual, then mix your regular lotion with equal part self-tanner. This is also a great way to stretch your beauty dollar.
Fashion stretches from head to toe. When you’re not feeling too sexy in that swimsuit, you’re tempted to cover it all up in a baggy tea and some slouchy shorts. Don’t do it! Fashion looks good, no matter what size or shape you’re in. Go ahead and invest in a pretty cover-up and some cute sandals that you can slip on poolside. A beach hat and sunglasses not only help you ward off the glare, but they also make you look rock star fabulous!
Beauty is in the details. Don’t underestimate the power of a good pedicure. Little touches like these show that you care about yourself (and, Mama, you better be caring about yourself!). No need to get a professional to do the job. I’ve never had a manicure or pedicure in my life! If you have a hot shower, a pumice stone, a file board, and some pretty polish, then you’re in good shape.
Confidence is key. Nothing looks worse than an insecure mom who is slouching around the pool trying to find the closest place to wrap up and hide. I’m going to let you in on a little secret—NO ONE CARES BUT YOU! One time I was at the pool with the kids and there were plenty of moms in their designer shades with their pricy suits sitting around yapping it up. Then I noticed this one mom in the pool playing with her kids. She had stretch marks and plenty of rolls around the middle, but there she was in her two-piece, soaking wet, laughing her heart out, and tossing her kids over her shoulders into the deep end. Who was beautiful? She was! And it wasn’t because she had a perfect body or a golden tan. She was beautiful because she was confident! No matter what you wear this summer, make you sure wear your confidence…your worth it!
