Our family had a big party over the holidays. It was so much fun! Actually, anytime there is food and friends, you can be sure that “fun” will be a big part of it! We straightened up the house, put out a pile of food, and turned up the music. After a few hours, people began to leave and a few of us started picking up plates, cups, and other miscellaneous pieces of trash that were sitting around the house. One person grabbed a trash bag, while another person grabbed a bottle of cleaner and a rag. But the thing I noticed is that the party didn’t stop! Even when the chitchat turned to chores, the laughter and joy continued.
It made me realize how important…
perspective is. If we see every day as a party, then we carry that perspective throughout the entire day. Making meals is as much fun as eating them. Dusting the living room is as much fun as lounging in it. It’s all a matter of perspective.
This was truly a revelation to me. As we said our last goodbyes that evening, I turned and looked at our home that was just as clean and tidy as it was before the party. And I didn’t even recall the work it took to get it in that condition! It was all part of the party.
God has placed you here to have an abundant life—to have joy, contentment, and fullness in your spirit. It is not His will for you to suffer through the day. You and I both know that a mom’s job never stops. There is always work to do—laundry, meals, cleaning, errands, bills, and so much more. You can get the work done with a grimace or a grin. It’s all up to you.
Why not get a “party perspective?” Why not turn up the music, put out the snacks, and make it all a party? Scripture tells us, “Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is for one to eat and drink, and to find enjoyment in all the labor in which he labors under the sun all the days which God gives him—for this is his part” (Ecclesiastes 5:18). Notice that it doesn’t say to find work you enjoy. It says to find enjoyment in your work. Those are two totally different things! We are told to get a party perspective and find joy and contentment right now, right here, with the tasks that are placed before us. So, go ahead—eat, drink, and get that party perspective!
