Let Them Eat Cake!
By Meggan Larson
When I first started on Trim Healthy Mama I ate a ridiculous amount of cheesecake. Basically every morning for breakfast I ate some form of cheesecake and usually topped it with whipped cream. Not only that, but I would also have what I liked to call “Coffee Supreme” which was essentially a latte with whipped cream on top. And do you know what? I lost 60lbs that year. I didn’t worry about whether or not I was eating too much dairy or whipped cream. I didn’t stress about whether I had enough veggies on my plate or if I ate enough energizing meals that week. I just ate what I felt like eating but kept to the THM principles of separating my fats from my carbs and making sure I had protein at every meal.
Somewhere along the way I…
Started to gain the weight back and convinced myself that what I had been doing didn’t work anymore. I believed the lie that I was eating too much dairy, that my portions were too big, and that I was gaining weight because of it. Never mind the fact that it was exactly what I had eaten to lose the 60lbs in the first place, now all of a sudden that was all wrong and I needed to reinvent the wheel. I started fearing cream cheese and whipped cream because one person one time had blamed their stall on those things.
The fact is, we’re all different. For some reason my body really likes dairy and you know what? That’s okay! When I eat cheesecake for breakfast I lose weight quickly. What a problem to have right? For some, it may cause a stall but that doesn’t mean it’s going to cause one for everyone. When I stick to just eating small salads and dry low-fat meat, I don’t lose weight.
It can be a challenge to navigate the world of low fat, high fat, low carb, high carb, no carb, blood type, vegan, paleo, keto, whole 30, fruitarian, eat only cereal 3 times/day, etc diet plans. I mean it’s enough to make you want to scream am I right? Every single eating plan will tell you why what you’re eating is absolutely terrible but if it’s working for you then DO IT! Life is too short to watch every single bite of food that you eat. If you’re losing weight eating what you’re eating then I say “let them eat cake (or cheesecake as the case may be!)”.
