Lay Your Burdens On The Lord
by Meggan Larson
Recently I went to a prayer meeting with some of the people from my church and it was truly profound. We spent a long time just listening to worship music and praising the Lord. My pastor really felt that there were some serious burdens that the people in the room were holding onto and that the Lord was telling us to lay those burdens on Him.
Not only that…
But to also forget about them. So often we think we’ve given our burdens to the Lord but then find ourselves constantly thinking about them or worrying about them again. What I heard last week was profound because he said “even if you feel like the burden you’re carrying is your fault. Even if you feel like it’s affecting others in a negative way, the Lord wants you to lay these burdens at His feet and forget about them.” I had a very specific burden that I’ve been carrying for 5 long years and all of a sudden I was set free from the worry and the shame of it. Within 24 hours a very creative solution presented itself and I am walking towards that in faith and excitement. I haven’t felt hope in this specific area in 5 years.
The reason I’m telling you about this is because I feel that a lot of you are carrying the burden of weighing more than you want to. It’s draining, frustrating, suffocating and you feel as though it’s your fault because you did it to yourself so it’s your burden to carry. I felt this way too but Jesus is so kind and gracious that He literally wants to take that burden off of our shoulders (regardless of whether it’s our fault or not) and give us His peace. Choose today to trade your burdens for the joy of the Lord. Give it up to Him, do your best with eating and exercising, and leave the rest to Him. When we are striving for a goal there is no peace in that. It’s when we surrender it to Him that we can truly achieve peace.
