Keeping Yourself Motivated
By Meggan Larson
It’s not always easy to get motivated, is it? Motivation is a necessary currency that is as valuable as gold. When we lack motivation, it’s hard to get anything accomplished. Even getting out of bed is a struggle! It can seem like the world is falling apart when you’re depleted of motivation so I thought I would share a few simple tips to get and stay motivated…
One thing I like to do is find an old picture of myself when I was happy with my weight and put it somewhere that I will see it often. It’s a simple way to be training my brain to remember what I looked like and work towards getting back there. If you have never actually been at goal weight then find someone’s body you do like and put your head on it. Hey, no one else has to see it right? This is a safe space, a judgment-free zone. 😉
Another thing I’ve seen that’s very effective is to use a jar of marbles (or pennies, etc you get the idea) and for every pound lost you add another marble to the jar. That way you can see a visual of how far you’ve come, especially on days when you feel like you’re moving backward.
Setting small weight loss goals is a great way to stay motivated too! 10lbs down ~ go for a pedicure (or just finally take the time to paint your own nails. You know you’ve been putting it off for a long time). 20lbs down ~ get that hanging plant you’ve been eying for a while now. Make a list of the things that you are wanting and start checking them off as you lose the weight. Getting to goal weight is a great goal, however, if you have nothing in between to keep motivating you then it can feel like it’s too far away. Treat yourself at little intervals so that you can stay focused and stay the course. You’re worth it mama!
