Holly on Hollywood – Jumanji: The Next Level

Holly on Hollywood
“Jumanji: The Next Level”
by Holly McClure

JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL sequel takes place the following year after Spencer, Martha, Fridge and Bethany are out of high school. This time Spencer comes home for the holidays, ends up missing and his Grandpa Eddie (Danny DeVito) and estranged best friend, Milo (Danny Glover), become Dr. Bravestone (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and Mouse Finbar (Kevin Hart). Fridge becomes Professor Oberon (Jack Black), and Martha is still Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). The new team search for Spencer while the two very confused seniors admire their new younger, muscular bodies! Nick Jonas and Awkwafina also star.
The PG-13 is best for older kids to adults because of multigenerational humor about older people in younger bodies, perilous high-stakes in the video game, language, the game characters dying in various ways (animal attacks, poisoned darts, falling to death, being blown up and more peril) which ends up leaving some left with only one life. This time around there’s less emphasis on flirting and sexual tension and instead, characters must work together using new skills and abilities to escape the game after a barbaric tyrant named Jurgen the Brutal (Rory McCann) steals a gem that threatens the harmony of Jumanji. This time around it’s about finding the unconditional friends who can help you overcome the toughest and most perilous situations with themes of teamwork, communication, compassion, and courage. JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL is an entertaining twist on the original with next level action, adventure and it was surprisingly funnier than I expected. This is a great popcorn movie that continues the game older kids to adults will enjoy!
