I do everything in my power to cut costs around here. I make my own milk (it’s not what you’re thinking. I use brown rice and Kamut grain). I recycle plastic bags. I cut my own hair (no comment, please). I even turn off the AC unit upstairs during the summer so we can cost energy costs and just run the one on the main floor.
That’s why, when I walked upstairs and noticed it was a bit chilly for a hot summer day in Virginia, I glanced at the thermostat and noticed it was set at 65 degrees. Dollar signs flashed in front of my eyes and I immediately went on a rampage to find out who the culprit was.
There sat one of my oldest daughters, in her room, reading at her computer.
“Did you turn down the thermostat?” I asked her…
“Oh, yeah,” she said. That was all she needed to say. That sealed her fate. But then she added fuel to the fire with her next comment.
“It gets really hot in the bathroom when I dry my hair. I wanted to stay cool.”
I just looked at her. My face in shock, framed with my homestyle haircut. Then, I heard something even more incredulous…it was my father’s voice coming out of my mouth.
“When you’re paying the bills around here, you can set the thermostat anywhere you want.”
Lord, help me! I’m becoming my dad!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
