It’s a New Year to be a New You

It’s a New Year to be a New You

By Meggan Larson

I’ve seen a lot of posts on Facebook in the last few days giving a bad rep to the saying new year new you. It’s all about loving yourself where you’re at, not making any plans to change in the new year, and basically just being ok with exactly how 2019 went and continue on the same path. Look, I’m all about self love and acceptance because if you don’t have that, you’re going to struggle greatly.

The thing is though…

…a man without a vision will perish! (Proverbs 29:18) It’s so important to take stock of what 2019 was like for you. What were the highlights? What were the mistakes? Did you accomplish all that you set out to do?

Now it’s time to plan for 2020. Unless you were perfectly happy with every single thing that happened in 2019 and you don’t want to change a thing in your life then you have some planning to do! Even if you just barely survived 2019, there’s nothing wrong with giving yourself a vision for the year. In fact, it’s essential!

Yes, you should accept who you are exactly as you are ~ that’s a given. But just as Jesus loves us right where we’re at but loves us too much to leave us there, so we need to do it for ourselves too. I am excited about the improvements I make every year! It’s not a source of pain for me to improve myself and it shouldn’t be for you either. So sure, you don’t HAVE to change, or go on a diet, or be better than you were last year; but why wouldn’t you want to? A new year brings with it infinite possibilities and hope. Please don’t become jaded because of goals not accomplished in the past. Forgive yourself, move on, and get a vision for 2020!
