It’s A Bumpy Ride
by Hannah Keeley
Have you ever started something new and gotten great results? It’s so exciting isn’t it? You’re on a roll and it seems like you have the Midas touch; everything you touch turns to gold. You’re unstoppable! If you started a weight-loss program, then those first ten pounds are gone in an instant. If you started a new business, you get those first few clients within days.
But then something happens…
The tide turns and you hit a bump in the road. You put on a couple pounds. You lose some clients. You’re not doing anything different, but what worked before isn’t working anymore. What gives??
This happened to me the other day. I wanted to make the kids a special breakfast, and decided on some “lovey-dovey egg toast.” I cut a heart out of a piece of bread, buttered the bread, and cooked an egg inside it on the frying pan. The first attempt turned out to be fabulous!
But the second attempt? And the third attempt? Things just went from good to bad in no time flat! But, I finally figured out the secret of perfect “lovey-dovey egg toast” and it’s not what you think. It has nothing to do with the temperature or time it cooks. It’s about the simple secret of persistence.
It would be nice if there were some fail-proof formula for success, but the only real formula is this: DO NOT QUIT! Success is never a smooth process. It’s full of lots of bumps, bruises, and burnt toast along the way. You gain some of that weight back. You lose some clients. Whatever worked before is no longer working and you find yourself scrambling to get your footing back. That happens to everyone. Every successful person has their fair share of setbacks. But I guarantee that person reached success by not letting that setback stop them. They say the road to success is paved by failures and that is so true.
Quitting’s easy. Everyone can quit. In fact, some people seem to turn quitting into a profession. But that’s not YOU! Failure isn’t when you get knocked down. We all get knocked down. The only true failure is when you choose to stay down! Success is when you get back up and keep going.
DO NOT QUIT! Keep exercising. Keep calling potential clients. Keep reaching out to that child. Keep paying off that debt. Keep cracking eggs in the frying pan! Don’t let the setbacks stop you. Your breakthrough is waiting to be manifested in your life. But it will not and can not ever become a reality if you choose to quit.
Galatians 6:9 tells us, “let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.”
Success doesn’t happen to the quitters. It happens to those who keep believing in God’s goodness and NEVER GIVE UP! Don’t let the burnt toast get you down. Just consider it one more subplot in your success story and go crack some more eggs!
Is there a breakthrough you are believing for? Share it with me so I can come alongside you in prayer!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
